Worldwide SoundscapesA worldwide open database of soundscape recording datasets across realms We collate and analyse passive acoustic monitoring datasets from the terrestrial, marine, freshwater, and subterranean realms for the first global, comprehensive, quantitative synthesis of soundscapes. The project is open to collaborators providing passive, spatially or temporally replicated meta-datasets. Manager: Kevin FA Darras |
Open collectionsIndividual collections that are not part of larger projects, created for sharing soundscape recordings. |

ECO-OLIVESECO-OLIVES - Ecological management of European olive agroforestry: linking biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services and productivity Agroforestry systems can benefit from insectivorous birds and bats which provide important ecosystem services such as pest control at local scales and thus prevent disease outbreaks and enhance crop yields. However, biodiversity of olive and other farming systems in Europe is increasingly threatened by fast expanding intensive olive monocultures that most often replace biodiversity-rich traditional farming activities, leading to an impaired provision of ecosystem services. This project aims to provide a combined assessment of functional diversity, multitrophic interactions of birds, bats and arthropods, as well as associated ecosystem services and socio-ecological implications for olive agroforests of Italy. Drought stress as a chanceDry summers leave their mark on Switzerland's forests: many trees have sparse crowns and die off. These developments pose challenges for forest owners, forestry services and society - but they also offer big opportunities for the biodiversity. The Swiss Ornithological Institute is working with partners to protect forests suffering from drought stress so that they are left to decompose for 30 years. Passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) is used to record changes in the composition of breeding birds. Manager: Thomas Sattler |
Freshwater Soundscape DatabaseDespite underwater soundscapes of freshwater habitats being sonically rich, they are largely undocumented. This is a space to combine our efforts and learn more about the aquatic world of ponds, lakes, and rivers. Managers: David de la Haye and Jack Greenhalgh |
